STICKYGINGER ADORES...The Plastic Bottle Project by Florie Salnot

French product designer presents The Plastic Bottle Project - jewellery designed and created by Saharawi refugees in the Sahara desert, southwest Algeria.

Sponsored by Sandblast charity (www.sandblast-arts.org), Florie took the technique to these communities and with the minimal tools available to them, was enabled to teach them how to make jewelery from what they had in their camps - essentially discarded plastic bottles and hot sand.

By heating the plastic and curving it around nails embedded in wood allows the women to create curlicue shapes that create this "plastic gold"

Now on display at The Empty Quarter Fine Art Photography Gallery, DIFC.
